The day after David was diagnosed, Mary and Daddy found this  stuffed animal cat in the Hospital Gift Shop that looked remarkably like Butterscotch.   When Mary brought it to David's room, David thought for a minute that Mary had snuck in the genuine article.   The real Butterscotch didn't quite know what to make of the imposter.  Never the less, Butterscotch 2   made every Hospital admission with David as a reminder of his best pal at home.   The stuffed cat rested at his head in the casket and was placed on David's casket during the funeral.

Can't forget Mary's baby "Cuddles" who as a kitten once slept on a 9th month pregnant friend's stomach... snoring quite happily.

In May of '96, Butterscotch was stricken with a serious illness that had the Vet stumped... she predicted that he would not survive.   But survive he did and his "miraculous" recovery was an inspiration for David during his struggle.
